Dust particles decrease in Colombo city

July 29 (DN) A significant decrease in dust particles below the 10 micrometre level is witnessed in the Colombo city, Environment Ministry Air Resources Management Center data revealed. Dust particles less than 10 micrometre level has decreased to 60 micro grams within a cubic meter of air. This was 72 micro grams before 2008. Jaffna voters who left to be omitted from list

July 29 (DM) The Elections Secretariat has decided to omit from the 2010 electoral register, the names of voters in the Jaffna district who have left the country during the conflict period. Elections authorities are currently enumerating the voters to prepare the electoral list for 2010. Nearly 1,750 child abuse calls

July 29 (DN) The ‘Child Line’, 24 hour hotline service of the National Child Protection Authority (NCPA) has received 1,750 telephone calls from all areas of the country, NCPA Chairperson Anoma Dissanayake said. The ‘Child Line’ hotline service was introduced by the NCPA on July 22, aimed at eradicating child abuse and to come to the defence of helpless children. July 30 (SL) As construction on the 300MW power plant nears completion, the Sri Lankan cabinet has approved the Lanka Coal Company opening a Rs. 1 billion letter of credit to purchase coal and begin operations this November.
