UNP MP Dayasiri Jayasekera told a news conference today that the CPC is in the process of purchasing low sulphur oil at a rate of US$90 per metric ton instead of the usual price which ranges from US$27 to 33 by a black listed foreign company.

Sri Lanka Dockyard wins Indian passenger ferry deal
Sep 1 (LBO) Sri Lanka's Colombo Dockyard said it has won an order to build two passenger ferries for India's Laskshadweep island administration, on the wake of an earlier delivery to the same customer. The contract comes a year after delivery of two passenger vessels, Arabian Sea and Lakshadweep Sea, for the Administration of the Union Territory of Lakshadweep in India. The vessels ordered will have the capacity to carry 400 passengers and 250 tonnes of cargo.

Australia court rules out refugee 'swap' with Malaysia
Sep 1 (BBC) Australia's High Court has ruled that a government plan for a refugee "swap" with Malaysia is unlawful. Under the deal, Australia would have sent 800 asylum seekers to Malaysia and would have received 4,000 refugees in return over four years. 3 army corporals nabbed with bullet
Sept 1 (DM) Three army corporals, who had been travelling in a three-wheeler with a bullet said to be of immense archeological value, that they had allegedly stolen from the Panagoda Army Camp, were arrested by police.
