Editorial : A gruesome reminder |
Feb 18 (Island) Friday night’s attack on Faraz Shauketaly, a Sunday Leader journalist, has come as a gruesome reminder that though the LTTE military muscle was crushed nearly four years ago, other forms of terrorism exist. That dastardly act of terror must be condemned unreservedly. It is being claimed in some quarters that media freedom is non-existent in Sri Lanka, but a more accurate description of the situation would, in our book, be that a journalist has the freedom to write

Feb 18 (ST) The Govt’s request for a further US$ 1.5 billion loan from the IMF has been turned down on two grounds: that the IMF does not provide budget support to govts and that Sri Lanka’s external reserves have now reached a level of about US$ 7 billion and “accordingly, there appears to be a very limited need to build up a further cushion in external reserves through traditional IMF Balance of Payment support programmes, such as Stand-By Arrangements and Extended Fund Facilities”.

Jodie Fields, a captain who wants to get wickets at all costs, took her aggression to another level, consistently targetting the opposition's

Feb 18 (Island) A couple of months back, I attended a dinner function organised by the Ananda College OBA, which happens to be my alma mater, and one of the speeches was made by old Anandian Kushil Gunasekara. The organisation that has been built by this man does a lot more.
