July 22 (EN) Sri Lanka's imports rose 17.2% to US$ 1.5 billion in May 2015 from a year earlier, official data showed amid growing state and private credit in 2015, while exports were flat. Consumer goods imports rose 25.6% to US$ 348 million in May from a year earlier. Though food imports fell 4.1% to US$ 131.9 million amid falls in commodity prices, expenditure on vehicles rose 87% to US$ 93 million.

Assassination attempt on Gota; suspect sentenced |
July 22 (DM) A man, who was found guilty of having concealed information of an attempt to assassinate former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa by the LTTE, was sentenced to six months imprisonment by Colombo High Court Judge today.
