Take middle path on foreign policy

Nov 27 (ST) Govt received a reality check last week in Geneva when the Attorney General (AG) and the chief of National Intelligence (CNI) got a rude shock at a UN committee monitoring torture when they were cross-examined to the point that they had to beat a hasty retreat from the floor. Castro: The saga continues

Nov 27 (CT) From femme females to poisoned milkshakes, Fidel Castro ran the gamut of hundreds of assassination attempts (much of it romanticized exaggeration) since he became (rather made himself!) the PM of Cuba in Feb of 1959. He would have well been reminiscing in his years in retirement, Havana cigar clutched between tobacco-stained teeth, with his made-for-drama belligerent and almost Churchillian glare, and guffawing at the CIA's failed attempts to kill him through more..

Justice Minister’s statement earns ire of Muslim ministers

Nov 27 (SO) After the Rajapaksa family fell out of power in January, last year, almost every ultra-nationalist group representing Sinhala-Buddhist supremacy went into a dormant phase. Passing the buck

Nov 27 (ST) My dear Ravi, I thought of writing to you when I heard that the budget you presented in Parliament had been passed – by a two thirds majority at that! It reminds us of the times when Ronnie used to present budgets during the JR era and get them approved by a two-thirds majority with hardly a whimper of protest! I’m sure you must be a relieved man after what happened last year. That was when almost each and every one of your budget proposals were changed or scrapped more..

Finger pointing in Parliament

Nov 27 (SO) What an unruly sitting, what an unholy rabble. I speak of Parliamentarians and their meeting in the august House by the Diyawanna on Monday 21st. The rabble roused in Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar first met in a street in the market place in Rome to celebrate the victorious return of their greatest general - Julius Caesar.
