New law to standardize degrees from state, non-state universities

Feb 25 (DM) Amid the continuing controversy on the quality of higher education offered by private sector educational institutions, the Higher Education Ministry is to introduce legislation in Parliament to standardize the degree courses offered by State and non-State institutions, Minister Lakshman Kiriella said. Feb 25 (NR) Sri Lanka has been placed 66th among recognised countries by The Economist magazine’s Democracy Index. Index takes into consideration the country’s election process, govt-funded facilities, political participation, political culture and civil freedom.
