CGT, a solace for the prevailing tax system
Nov 1 (DN) Former Minister Ravi Karunanayake in his budget speech for 2017 stated that the tax system of the country is revisited with emphasis being made on the creation of much simpler tax regime with minimum tax exemptions and a broadened tax base. He also said that Capital Gain Tax (CGT) will be introduced with effect from April 1, 2017 at rate of 10% because they consider this tax to be equitable as it bridges the income gap and assists govt initiatives in poverty alleviation.
