No rain in dry zone: Threat to Maha, Yala Seasons
Nov 26 (CT) The Irrigation Department warned yesterday that since the Northeast inter-monsoon rains were not received in 14 districts of the dry zone in the country, it could have a severe impact on paddy production in the forthcoming Maha and Yala Seasons for 2018. They said that if the lack of rain affects paddy cultivation in the upcoming Maha Season, it would mean that three consecutive seasons have failed and it could affect the prices of rice.
