Boxing chief gives a choice to officials in the new year

UK pledges to support prison reforms in SL
Dec 29 (DM) British High Commissioner in Sri Lanka, Sarah Hulton has said that the UK is ready to provide technical assistance on prison reforms and in the process of drafting legislation in Sri Lanka. Maximum Retail Price for cement gazetted
Dec 29 (AD) The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has gazetted the Maximum Retail Price (MRP) for three categories of cement with effect from yesterday (27). Issuing an extraordinary gazette notification, the CAA said the following categories of cement will no longer be allowed for sale above the gazetted MRP. The CAA issued the relevant gazette notification acting under the powers vested in it by Section 20(5) of the Consumer Affairs Authority Act, No. 09 of 2003.

No decision on new rice mills
Dec 29 (TM) The Govt has not yet decided to set up new rice mills, because the country already has enough rice mills in operation, State Minister Anura Priyadharshana Yapa said. “Some of the rice millers were facing difficulties due to the bank loans they had obtained to maintain their businesses. Three-wheeler fares reduced

'Fine, imprisonment for illegal user of water'
Dec 30 (DM) Those who obtain pipe borne water illegally are to be prosecuted and jailed, and the relevant act would be amended accordingly, Minister of State Vasudeva Nanayakkara said.
