53 returnees on same flight test positive for Convid-19
Sep 2 (DM) 53 returnees from Qatar, who were on the same flight tested positive for COVID-19 increasing the total number of patients to 3,081, Epidemiology Unit Chief Epidemiologist Dr. Sudath Samaraweera said. 398 passengers on the flight were subjected to PCR tests and then sent to quarantine centres. Meanwhile, the number of active cases had risen to 190 while the number recovered had increased to 2,879 with the eight who had recovered, were discharged from hospitals.

20th Amendment to the Constitution: President’s term limit to remain as in 19A
Sep 2 (DM) The term limit of a president and duration as stated in the 19th Amendment will not be changed in the 20th Amendment to the Constitution, an informed source said. SL extends petrol, diesel tax surcharges
Sep 2 (EN) Sri Lanka has extended import duty surcharges on refined fuel for three months till Nov 24, which is a key revenue source for the govt as tax revenues are hard hit by a Coronavirus pandemic. SL is also building a fund out of fuel tax revenues. The current administration has said it will not adjust fuel prices to market levels but will change taxes to keep retail prices steady.
