Push against PTA gathers momentum
Feb 24 (Island) In terms of the Ceasefire Agreement (CFA) arranged by Norway in Feb 2002, Sri Lanka suspended the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA). The then Premier Ranil Wickremesinghe went ahead with the controversial move, though some sections of the armed forces, and the police, opposed the move. 56,107 persons vaccinated against COVID-19
Feb 24 (FT) COVID-19 vaccines were administered to 56,107 persons on Tuesday and at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine has been administered to 76.9% of the total population. 64.29% of the population has received the second dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and the third dose has been administered to 29.83% of the population. As of 21 Feb, 95.4% of the population over 20 years had received the first two vaccine doses and 44.75% had received the booster dose.

1,281 persons test positive for COVID-19
Feb 24 (FT) COVID-19 detections in the country exceeded 640,000 yesterday with the detection of 1,281 COVID-19 patients. All patients detected yesterday were from the New Year cluster. The previous day, 1,253 persons from the New Year cluster and one SL returnee from overseas tested positive for COVID-19. 6,089 PCR tests and 3,000 rapid antigen tests were conducted on Tuesday. 900,000 Lankans refuse Covid-19 vaccines

President on inspection tour at Ratmalana railway maintenance yard

He had reportedly passed away at a private hospital in Colombo while receiving treatment for a kidney ailment. He had been hospitalized for nearly three months, according to close relatives. Call for abolishing PTA: Sabry acknowledges HRCSL’s right to take stand
