Sajith repeats call to President to resign

Private sector borrowing plunges to Rs. 2 b in May
Jul 4 (FT) Private sector had borrowed only Rs. 2 billion in May, a sharp plunge in comparison to recent months. As per latest data of the Central Bank, credit to the private sector by May stood at Rs. 7,754 billion as against Rs. 7,752 billion in April, reflecting a mere Rs. 2 billion increase. In contrast, January and February saw borrowings of over Rs. 30 billion each. Analysts attributed the sharp plunge in borrowings in May to the economic crisis as well as hike in interest rates.

Five fuel shipments to arrive in July
Jul 4 (TM) Minister Kanchana Wijesekera said that five fuel shipments are confirmed to arrive in the country this month, while the Ministry is awaiting confirmation about two other shipments from Malaysia, with the CPC total petrol stocks remaining desperately low at 4,064 metric tonnes (MT). “CPC currently has 5,274 MT of diesel and will receive 7,500 MT more from the LIOC tomorrow (4) for $ 11 million.

Tax revenues up 27% with galloping inflation, one off levy

Govt domestic borrowings surpass Rs. 1.6 tn in first four months
