Mar 12 (DM) CPC has decided to increase fuel prices with effect from midnight today. A litre of 92 octane petrol has been increased by Rs 77 while a litre of 95 octane petrol by Rs. 75, a litre of auto diesel by Rs. 55 and a litre of super diesel has been increased by Rs. 95. Accordingly, new price of a litre of 92 octane petrol is Rs. 254 while a litre of 95 octane petrol will be sold at Rs. 283. Harin defaults on Rs 1.8M electricity bill
Mar 12 (CT) Convener of the CEB Joint Trade Union Alliance, Ranjan Jayalal, said SJB MP Harin Fernando had also failed to pay his monthly electricity bill amounting to nearly Rs 1.8 million. Proposal will be forwarded to ministry after calculating bus fare: NTC
Mar 12 (DM) A proposal will be forwarded to the Transport Ministry requesting a bus fare hike on par with the sudden fuel hike, NTC Director Nilan Miranda said. He said that bus operators were unable to continue with their services with this type of fuel hike. Therefore, the NTC is contemplating to calculate the bus fare and propose it to the ministry, as it takes longer time to revise the bus fares as per the national transport policy, he said. Dengue tally nears 11,000, infections rise in 17 areas
Mar 12 (ST) Nearly 11,000 people have been infected with the potentially-fatal dengue island-wide since January, causing widespread concern among health officials. Last month 2,962 people were infected. And up to March 3, there have been 187 infections, in addition to the 7,702 people infected in January. Most have been detected within the Western Province. Compared with 4,477 infected in January and February of 2021, dengue has become a widespread concern for health officials.

Child protection guardian falling behind on abuse shame
Mar 12 (ST) The number of child abuse complaints filed with the agency tasked with protecting children from abuse has skyrocketed to 11,187 in 2021, from an average of 8,500 complaints over the past 10 years.
