Soft drink crisis in Jaffna

Aug 26 (InfoLanka) The LTTE has banned the sale of Elephant brand soft drinks, following the company declining to pay a large sum as ‘Tiger tax’ demanded by the LTTE.

Furthermore, the LTTE, which has become the sole distributor for Pepsi, Seven-up and Miranda have raised the prices of these soft drinks. A bottle of Pepsi, which was sold at Rs. 85, is now sold at Rs. 95. Similarly, the price of brands less known has been raised from Rs. 23 to Rs. 27 a bottle.

In Colombo a bottle of these soft drinks are not more than Rs. 20/-
