Aug 27 (InfoLanka) Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe yesterday assured Sri Lanka Muslim Congress Leader Rauff Hakeem that the government would not change its decision on the recruitment of Muslim police officers for the Eastern region.
At a meeting held yesterday afternoon between the Premier and the SLMC leader, the Prime Minister informed Mr. Hakeem that special attention would also be given to the security situation in the Eastern province. The Prime Minister stressed that if the Tamil and Muslim MPs submitted more proposals in the future, they too would be attended togiven attention.
The assuarance came amidst opposition by the Tamil National Alliance to the government's decision to recruit 550 personnel to the police force.
