The Railway strike organised to be launched on September 01, in order to win certain trade union demands by the Joint Federation of Railway Trade Unions has been postponed for three weeks.
This decision follows a consensus arrived at a discussion held at the Tourism Ministry yesterday (August 28) participated by Tourism Minister Gamini Lokuge, Railway Authority Chairman P.H.Manatunga, Managing Director N.F.U.K. Fernando, Railway Additional General Manager K.A. Premasiri and representatives of the trade unions affiliated to the Joint Federation.
An undertaking has been given at this discussion that as soon as the Transport Minister returns to the island, the demands of the Joint Federation will be discussed among the Transport Minister, Minister Gamini Lokuge, the Railway Authority Chairman and brief the Prime Minister about a reasonable solution.
