The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna is yet to receive a formal invitation from the Sri Lanka Freedom Party for the resumption of talks on the proposed alliance.
The JVP politburo has decided to respond positively, only if the SLFP invites them officially and ignore any overtures for informal talks, party sources said. The JVP, however, is not prepared to change its stance as the SLFP wants it to and adopt the line that devolution of power is the solution to the ethnic problem.
However, recently SLFP Parliamentarian John Seneviratne is reported to have said that the SLFP will not make any policy sacrifices for the sake of an alliance with another political party.
The JVP earlier claimed that the main reason for the collapse of the first round of talks between the two parties was the SLFP's insistence that devolution of power was the solution to the ethnic issue.
