Nov 21 (IL) The World University Service of Canada (WUSC) announced the launch of the fourth phase of the Project for Rehabilitation through Education and Training (PRET IV) to take place today at 5.30 p.m. at the Galle Face Hotel, Colombo.
Tertiary Education and Training Minister, Kabir Hashim would be the Chief Guest, and the Canadian High Commissioner Valerie Raymond would be the Guest of Honour at this event.
The Chairperson of WUSC, Board of Directors, Dr. Constance Rooke would be among other distinguished guests that would also include members of the donor community, key institutions of the Government of Sri Lanka involved in vocational training and PRET partners.
The Government of Canada through the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) has granted the main funding for PRET IV and the previous phases. Today, PRET has evolved in to a project that has won the recognition of the International Community and it was also supported by important contributions from Australia through AusAID, Norway through Norad, from the Dutch agency Hivos, from NECORD, as well as from the Government of Sri Lanka itself.
The Project for Rehabilitation through Education and Training was first implemented in 1989 in response to the needs of those affected by the conflict situation in the Island.
The purpose of this project was to enhance the standard of living of marginalized individuals from all ethnic groups whose lives have been torn by violence and displacement, through the provision of employable skills and knowledge to earn a qualitative living.
