Vanni Rehabilitation Minister Noordeen Mashoor participated at the commissioning of two electricity supply schemes at Mullaiyoor in Koiyawaady and at Al Hijira village in Koiyawaady in the Puttalam District last weekend. The cost of these two power supply schemes is amounted to one million rupees, released by the Ministry. These schemes will benefit mostly the displaced families, living in these areas.
The Minister also opened a road, from Koiyawaady junction to Arafa Nagar village.
The road was constructed at a cost of Rs. 500,000. The length of this gravel road is about 1 1/2 kilometres which will help several relocated villages and welfare centres in the area.
Minister Mashoor recalled that a large sum of money has been utilized for establishing several community development projects in the Puttalam District where a considerable number of displaced Muslims from the North is living.
He said electricity problems would be solved by the end of 2004.
He said that his Ministry was in the process of developing the skills and living standards of the displaced families to eradicate their poverty. North East Special Commissioner, M. C. Junaid also participated.
