Dec 2 (IL) The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna has called upon President Kumaratunga to ensure the security of all unarmed persons in the Eastern Province.
"LTTE leader Prabhakaran has celebrated his 50th birthday by killing innocent Muslims," the party said, referring to the recent killings of three civilians in Trincomalee allegedly by the LTTE.
Now that the Defence Ministry has been taken over by President, we call upon her to take all necessary action, which would ensure the safety of all civilians", the JVP politburo said.
"We request the Muslim community not to be afraid of the LTTE dominance and not to run away from their villages. We will continue to persuade the President until she guarantees the security of the people in the East," the party said.
