Tyronne in Seychelles for cooperation on trade

Dec 29 (IL) Foreign Minister Tyronne Fernando who is on a two day official visit to Seychelles, first ever visit by a Sri Lankan Minister, met his counterpart Mr. Jeremie Bonnelame recently at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

At this meeting both Ministers exchanged views on areas of mutual interest of solidarity and cooperation with the Non Aligned Movement and the Commonwealth.

Ministers Fernando and Bonnelame signed an Agreement on Economic and Technical Cooperation to promote trade, economic, cultural, scientific and technical cooperation on the basis of equality and mutual benefits.

The two countries will have a Joint Commission and the first meeting will be held in Colombo next year.

Both Ministers also discussed providing training facilities for Seychelles teachers, promotion of tourism between the two countries and prevent illegal fishing in the waters of respective countries.

Prior to signing of the Agreement on Economic and Technical Cooperation and the bilateral meeting with Foreign Minister Bonnelame, Minister Fernando met Vice President Jamed Michel at the State House on the 22nd December 2003.

Minister Fernando was accompanied by High Commissioner Maduwegedera and Mr. Deepal Rodrigo
