'Mr. Clean politics' yesterday came in for a lot of flak by the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna who alleged that he has been out of the country most of the time during the tenure of his government than attending parliamentary sessions and discussing issues facing the people who elected him to power.
Former JVP MP, Vijitha Herath addressing an election meeting at Kelaniya charged that Mr. Milinda Moragoda was only wasting public money for no obvious reasons rather than finding solutions to the burning issues.
The JVP demanded Minister Moragoda to come forward and tell the masses specifically how many days he attended parliament during the last two years, how many days he went to his office at the Ministry of Economic Reforms, Science and Technology and how many times he was abroad since 2001 December.
Meanwhile, the LTTE-represented Tamil National Alliance (TNA) will find it hard at the forthcoming elections, and they would fail to secure the 15 seats they obtained at the 2001 General Elections, the JVP alleged.
Also addressing an election rally at Wattala, former JVP MP Vijitha Herath claimed that even though the TNA is hoping to get more than 18 seats at this election, they would be in for a 'pleasant surprise' as they would get much less votes than 2001, resulting in lesser seats than 15.
He pointed out that the total number of seats in the North-East Province was 31, and with the other Tamil and Muslim political parties contesting the election in this province, which include several other frontline parties, the TNA would find it tough at the April 2 election.
Mr. Herath said the TNA could not win all the seats in Jaffna, Vanni and Batticaloa, as there were several other frontline parties such as the National Unity Alliance, Eelam People's Democratic Party and several others including Independent Groups contesting the election, who were certain that they would obtain a reasonable number of seats from these three districts
