July 11 (IL) The country's main minority political parties including the Government's main Muslim ally, yesterday urged the Government to resume peace talks with the LTTE as soon as possible.
Responding to Wednesday's bomb blast at Kollupitiya, TNA General Secretary Mavai Senathirajah said his party did not know who was responsible for the attack, but urged the UPFA Government to start peace talks with the LTTE immediately.
He said the TNA believed the LTTE's proposal for a self governing authority was largely a humanitarian proposal and the government should seriously consider it.
CWC Vice President R. Yogarajan said the people were again in a state of fear and the government should resume peace talks with the LTTE immediately.
SLMC General Secretary M.T. Hasan Ali said it was essential for peace talks to begin immediately.
NUA Leader Minister Ferial Ashraff, a close ally of Mrs. Chandrika Kumaratunga also stressed the need for talks between the government and the LTTE to resume immediately. She called for a spirit of compromise not only by the government but also by the LTTE
