Muslim organisations unite to provide relief

Jan 1 (IL) In order to provide effective relief activities on a national basis to the victims of the devastating tsunami, a group of Muslim organizations has united together and formed the Coordinating Centre for Relief and Rehabilitation (CCRR). The relief centre will operate round the clock at the building of All Ceylon YMMA Conference, No 63, Dematagoda road, Colombo 9.

Thirty Muslim organizations, mentioned below and operating in the city participated in the meeting convened by the Sri Lanka Muslim Media Forum (SLMMF) on Tuesday. At the meeting it was decided to bring about coordination among many Muslim organizations engaged in relief works and to help the victims of the disaster on a national basis. The following decisions were also made at the meeting.

Those who wish to provide relief to do so through this centre, so that they could be guided of the places of necessity. This will make all victims served.

Details of damages, items and relief measures required, should be brought to the notice of the CCRR.

All other Muslim organizations providing relief works are also kindly requested to co-ordinate with the CCRR at this time of disaster. It was also decided to firmly co-operate with the government in all the activities, both immediate and long term disaster management and to co-operate with people of all ethnicities.

"We appreciate the opinions expressed by the media, politicians and religious leaders that all people should unitedly participate in providing aid to the victims of this national disaster.

"We pray to Almighty Allah that such disaster will never occur here or in any part of the world," said a CCRR spokesman.
