Money set aside to desilt Negombo lagoon |
Aug 7 (DN) Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Minister Felix Perera told Parliament yesterday that the Government has allocated money to desilt the Negombo lagoon. The Minister said some people have occupied several sections of the Negombo lagoon illegally and have even constructed illegal structures. He said the water level of the Negombo lagoon has gone down at present due to the depositing of dregs on the lagoon bed.

Divaratne yesterday said that he would not hesitate to cancel the licenses of ships carrying cargo to the North if they fail to comply with his directive to transport at least 25per cent of essential items required in the peninsula.
