Aug 9 (LB) All who knew popular freelance journalist R Manamendra (48) are shocked to learn of his untimely death. The coroner had returned an open verdict. Manamendra had died a few days earlier in his home in Wellawatte where he lived by himself, and his body was found by a neighbour. The number of tamed elephants dwindled fast during the part few years as they died due to old age. Maid arrested for stealing around Dh500,000 |

The woman was earlier convicted in 2008 on theft charges and deported after spending her jail term, but had returned six months later using a fake passport.
