Tamil Foundation's assets frozen

Feb 12 (AP) The U.S. Treasury Department on Wednesday froze the assets of a Maryland-based charity that officials accuse of having given money to the Tamil Tiger rebels in Sri Lanka. The Tamil Foundation, based in Cumberland, Md., has acted as a support network for the LTTE, which the U.S. government considers a terrorist group, the agency said in a statement. Feb 12 (BBC) The ICRC says it has evacuated a further 160 sick and wounded people trapped by fighting in north Sri Lanka. An ICRC spokeswoman told the BBC that a vessel was on its way to Trincomalee after collecting civilian patients from the coastal village of Putumattalan.
