July 24 (LBO) Sri Lanka's tea production in June 2009 fell 14 percent to 23.6 million kilos compared with the same month in 2008 mainly because of sharp falls in teas grown in high and medium elevations, brokers said. In the six months to June 2009, the crop was down 23.8 percent to 130.5 million kilos from the same period in 2008, brokers John Keells said.

India says over 300,000 Lankan migrants to Tamil Nadu |
July 24 (CT) More than 300,000 Sri Lankans have migrated to Tamil Nadu as refugees in four phases in the past 26 years, the Indian government has said. State minister of home affairs Ajay Maken has told Indian Parliament that 134,000 of them had arrived between July 1983 and December 1987. This was followed by the migration of 122,000 others between July 1989 and April 1991. The influx of migrants was 22,418 during the third phase between July 1996 and August 2003, he said.

Four more H1N1 patients found |
July 24 (CT) Four more patients suffering from novel influenza or H1N1 virus have been found in Sri Lanka, reports say. Among them are two Indonesian nationals currently being treated at IDH Hospital. The others are two Sri Lankans returnees from the Middle East and the Maldives recently. So far, 48 H1N1 patients have been found in Sri Lanka and eight of them are currently being treated at IDH Hospital.
