Military suspects further detained |
Mar 27 (BBC) A court has allowed the police to detain five suspects arrested on suspicion of conspiring to overthrow the government for another month. The suspects, including defence columnist Ruwan Weerakoon, were produced before Colombo magistrate Champa Janaki Rajaratne. Brig Duminda Keppetiwalana, Maj Gen (retd.) Sunil Amarasena de Silva and Gen Sarath Fonseka’s private secretary, Senaka de Silva are among the other suspects.

Mar 27 (CP) The Supreme Court today (March 26) directed the police to provide 24-hour protection for all opposition parliamentarians. Chief Justice Asoka N. Silva made the directive after taking up a fundamental rights petition filed by 18 opposition MPs.
