Greater demand for Fresh Water Fish |
June 30 (GDI) At a meeting held at the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources to discuss the progress of the fresh fish industry in Sri Lanka, Minister Dr. Rajitha Senarathna said that there is a greater demand for fresh water fish as sea fishing gets more and more expensive due to fuel and the maintenance cost of fishing vessels. The Minister further said that the best example for aquaculture and fresh water fishing industry was the Ampara district.

Sri Lanka inflation at 2.8% in June |
June 30 (LBO) Sri Lanka consumer prices rose 2.8% in the 12-months to June 2014 from a year earlier, slowing from 3.2% in May. Prices during the month rose sharply by 1.1%, the highest monthly gain in the Colombo Consumer Price Index seen since June 2013 when the index gained 1.5%. The index had gained 2.7% in the past six months, just under 12-month figure. Food and non-alcoholic beverage sub-index rose 3.1% in the 12-months to June and the non-food index was up 2.5%.

Australia fund community-based projects |
June 30 (CG) The Australian High Commission has granted Rs 27 million to support 13 community-based projects across Sri Lanka, implemented by 12 organisations. Acting Australian High Commissioner, Sonya Koppe, today handed over cheques to community based organisations implementing these small scale development projects around Sri Lanka.
