Meethotamulla calamity: JVP to sue Govt for manslaughter
Apr 21 (CT) The JVP is planning to take legal action against those responsible for the Meethotamulla garbage mountain collapse, alleging it to be tantamount to manslaughter. Sunil Watagala, JVP WPC member said, legal action will be taken by the party against all those behind this tragedy, as per Municipal Council Act, and the Penal Code, especially since there had been prior warning that such a calamity could take place.

M'mulla displaced to receive Rs. 50,000
Apr 21 (NR) Govt has decided to grant 50,000 rupees to families displaced as a result of the collapse of garbage dump in Meethotamulla for a period of 3 months. The 50,000 rupees will be granted to around 300 families. An assessment will be made to determine if houses or compensation will be awarded to those affected. The funds are being provided for the displaced to rent out houses until estimations are completed.

18 TN fishermen given Rs 90 lakh for sunk, irreparable boats
Apr 21 (ENS) Chief Minister K Palaniswami granted assistance of Rs 90 lakh to 18 fishermen whose boats could not be salvaged after they were seized by SL navy. Palaniswami handed over cheques of Rs 5 lakh each to the fishermen at the Secretariat. Learn to live with it or learn from it?

Although the incident took everyone by shock, the tragedy was in fact long in the making.
