Prez Pardon for 661 prisoners to mark Vesak |
May 11 (DN) A Presidential Pardon and freedom has been granted to 661 prisoners around the country to mark Vesak celebrations this year. Of the 661 prisoners, 597 were released, while the remaining 64 prisoners who had been convicted of more than one crime, received pardon for one of their crimes. Chinese national nabbed with illicit liquor |
May 11 (DM) A Chinese national was taken into custody by the Bambalapitiya Police when he was found brewing illicit liquor (Kasippu) in a room on the third floor of an apartment in Bambalapitiya. SC extends stay order on cutting down Bo tree |
May 11 (Island) The Supreme Court yesterday extended till June 13, a stay order, restraining the Urban Development Authority and the Ministry of Megapolis from felling a Bo-tree, at the Pannipitiya junction.
