Lanka’s role in Indian Ocean’s geopolitics |
Sep 2 (ST) There was a sense of irony when PM Ranil Wickremesinghe issued a statement on Twitter from Ha Noi condoling with the family of US Senator John McCain who passed away on August 25. The irony is not that the Sri Lankan PM has also caught on to the fashionable Twitter messaging of world leaders, but the well-known US Senator and Presidential hopeful had been a guest of the then North Viet Nam Govt at the so-called Ha Noi Hilton as a PoW for 5 years during the war with USA.

From the ashes of pain and loss, a vision for a Sri Lankan future |
Sep 3 (SO) We have passed another July, which is considered a dark month in Sri Lanka’s recent history. It was Black July that led to a three-decade war and a host of other effects that pushed the country backwards by almost a century. However, the month of August also holds huge importance in my memory. Firstly, half my immediate family, including myself, were born in August. But some of the darkest memories I carry are also from that month, specifically from August 1990,

Politics of Evil |

Evil is an accusatory adjective that calls for some explanatory reasoning. Most people do things which somehow later turn out to be evil and remembered as evil. Who is Lasantha?
