Train service to be extended to Beliatta from Monday |
Apr 5 (Island) Commuters will be able to travel beyond Matara by train from Monday after the newly constructed 26.75 km railway extension from Matara to Beliatta is officially handed over to the Ministry of Transport. This extension is the first phase of the proposed railway extension to Hambantota (phase 2) and Kataragama (phase 3). It has cost over USD 278 million obtained as a loan from the Exim Bank of China.

Truck with 2,500 chickens robbed |
