'England whitewash forced us to rethink plans for New Zealand Tests'
Aug 13 (CI) Sri Lanka may have whitewashed South Africa in February, but their most recent Test series at home brought a 3-0 defeat at the hands of England. Though the hosts' spinners were expected to dominate the England batsmen, the opposition top order batted aggressively, and found ways to put up daunting totals. A lot has changed in SL's world since that series in November. Rangana is no longer around.

New Zealand seek to gain Asian foothold
Aug 13 (CI) SL won their last Test assignment - it was a historic one too - in South Africa, but so much has happened since. New Zealand have had a different kind of high, and a heartbreak to boot, at the World Cup, but are determined to move on and make a fresh start in Sri Lanka, with the Tests part of the World Test Championship. What's certain is they won't underestimate the hosts, even though they are yet to emerge from their forever-rebuilding state, under another interim coach.

On the Side of Justice
Aug 14 (GV) Why is it so difficult for the All Ceylon Jammiyathul Ulama (ACJU) to acknowledge 18 as the minimum age of marriage? What is interesting is that the Qur’an does not specify a minimum age for marriage; however it links the age of marriage with the age a person is able to make sound judgment. This is a crucial distinction, for the age of marriage cannot be static for the simple reason that it changes from time to time and culture to culture depending on various social factors.
