Steep rise in alcohol-related deaths |
Jan 14 (CT) Rs 880 million was spent per annum on the consumption of alcohol and tobacco including Rs 360 million on hard liquor, Rs 130 million on soft liquor such as beer and Rs 390 million on cigarettes. In terms of cigarette consumption, 1,725,000 persons above the age of 15 including adults and 6,000 children between the ages of 10 and 14 use cigarettes daily. In terms of gender, the figure is 28.4 per cent of males above 15 years of age and 0.45 per cent of females above 15.
