Saving Sri Lanka without sham coalitions with those facing political oblivion

Apr 26 (CT) Nothing is more ludicrous and laughable than desperate govt politicians who voted for the monstrous 20th amendment like Charitha Herath and Alahaperuma, now proposing that the PM and cabinet (but strangely not the Prez!) should resign with the formation of an all party coalition govt of some kind in order to save the country. One wonders whether these men might fancy being in such a dubious interim administration. How dare such failed politicians make such preposterous more..

Quō vādis?

Hear that? That’s the people

Apr 26 (TM) There was a time when SL was known as the great barn of the East, even though it is now awaiting rice on credit from absolutely any country that is willing to engage in such generosity. It is said that Lee Kuan Yew, the renowned PM of South East Asian economic giant Singapore, aspired to make Singapore as developed as SL was in the early 1950s, even though SL’s economy today is a guide on what not to do for many int'l govts, and a cautionary tale for many developing nations. more..

Editorial: Sinners stoning sinners

Speculation is rife that there will be a general strike in support of the ongoing efforts to engineer a regime change. As for its survival, more..

Education worthy of this moment of crisis

Apr 26 (Island) I can’t remember the exact words, but remember the sentiment: Nobody is happy with our education, not one person. Education should be about imagining a better world, a country, and a future. Our education does none of that, it’s simply designed to perpetuate the system, blindly and uncritically. The group, contributing to this column, the Kuppi Collective, was still forming, early into the Covid-19 lockdowns, when Anushka Kahandagama expressed thoughts such as these. more..
