Three-month programme to cultivate unused WP lands
Jun 8 (TM) As a solution to the food crisis that may arise in the future, unused lands in the Western Province (WP) will be cultivated, for which a 3-month-long joint programme will be launched. Police unsure why Johnston still not arrested

Tea bun to cost Rs 100?
Jun 8 (CT) The price of a tea bun could increase to Rs100 if the VAT is not removed from bakery products. This was revealed by the Chairman of the All Ceylon Bakery Owners’ Association, N.K. Jayawardana. He said, VAT was applied to only 1% of the bakery owners who earned more than Rs 300,000. CEB owes Rs26bn to renewable IPPs
Jun 8 (EN) State-run CEB owes renewable power producers 26 billion rupees for power provided since Aug 2021, Minister Kanchana Wijesekera said and a subsidy from taxpayers is also expected, he said. “We have started working on the finances from last month,” Minister told parliament. “At the moment we are paying 100 million rupees daily to renewable power suppliers.” CEB has not paid since Aug 2021. SL man dies in Japan suspected homicide
Jun 8 (NHK) Police in Ibaraki Prefecture, northeast of Tokyo, are investigating the death of a 45-year-old Sri Lankan man as a possible case of homicide. Police say they rushed to a trading company in Bando City on Sunday, after a caller said workers there were fighting. They found a Sri Lankan man, Upul Rohana Darmadasa, bleeding from his left shoulder. He was taken to a hospital, where he was confirmed dead. Police say he lived in Bando.
