Sanath to continue as Interim Head Coach

Govt says SL receives significant cross-regional support at HRC in Geneva
Sep 11 (FT) Foreign Affairs Ministry said a large number of countries took the floor in support of Sri Lanka during the Interactive Dialogue on Sri Lanka at the 57th Session of the Human Rights Council (HRC) that commenced in Geneva on 9 Sept 2024. Sri Lanka central bank repays Reserve Bank of India $450mn in 2024
Sep 11 (EN) SL’s central bank has repaid US$ 450 million to the Reserve Bank of India in the first six months of 2024. The central bank owed the RBI, US$ 2001.43 million by June 2024. When the numbers were first disclosed in 2023 third quarter the central bank owned the RBI US$ 2,601.43 million indicating that so far least US$ 600 million has been repaid. Reserve Bank of India gave SL’s central bank a swap and also allowed the agency to run arrears on the Asian Clearing Union dues.

225 MPs secure two repeater shotguns each ahead of presidential poll
Sep 11 (DM) Ahead of the presidential poll, all except ten out of 225 MPs have already secured two repeater shotguns each from the Defence Ministry for their personal security following concerns triggered after arson on a number of houses belonging to them in the aftermath of the 2022 Aragalaya, an official said. Cocaine worth Rs. 75 million sent from Colombia seized by customs
Sep 11 (AD) Officers of SL Customs Narcotics Control Unit at the BIA have seized 2.14 kilograms of cocaine estimated to be worth around Rs. 75 million at the BIA air cargo storage unit. The cocaine had been concealed within an electrical device inside a parcel sent via air cargo from Bogotá in Colombia to an address in Ganemulla. Sep 11 (EN) Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena has signed a recently passed national minimum wages (amendment) bill. Parliament said in a statement that the Speaker endorsed the certificate on the Bill titled National Minimum Wage of Workers (Amendment) Bill in accordance with article 79 of the constitution.
