Journalist shot dead in Jaffna

Aug 2 (BBC) Media watchdogs in Sri Lanka have demanded an impartial inquiry into the murder of a journalist student in Jaffna on Wednesday. Nilakshan Sahadevan, (22), was shot by assailants who came in motorbycles in Kokuvil, the Free Media Movement (FMM) said. He has succumbed to his injuries a few hours later. Two jumbos run over by goods train

Aug 2 (LNP) Two wild elephants were run over by a Trincomalee bound goods train between Agbopura and Aluthoya in the early hours of yesterday, Wild Life Conservation Department officials said.
