GMOA to withdraw from SLMC over MPMS

Sept 2 (Island) The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) has decided to withdraw its membership from the SLMC, if the latter grants the Malabe Private Medical School permission to register as legal entity in Sri Lanka. Panicked villagers attack bus fearing ‘grease devil’

Sept 2 (DM) The Jaffna police headquarters said that they had apprehended six (6) persons on suspicion of attacking a bus filled with pilgrims from the south on Wednesday (31) in Jaffna Town. While these pilgrims were sleeping at a rest house in Jaffna in the night, a woman residing nearby had screamed that there was a grease devil among the pilgrims. No corporal punishment

Sept 2 (DM) Laws will be introduced to make it a punishable offence to give corporal punishment at schools, children’s homes or at prisons. The laws would prevent prison authorities from treating prisoners in a manner that violated their rights. Less fruits, vegies at Dambulla centre

Sept 2 (DM) The Dambulla Economic Centre registered a drastic reduction in the quantity of vegetables and fruits that arrived yesterday because the traders feared they would be fined for not using plastic crates for packaging the food items. However Minister Johnston Fernando said traders would be given a three-month grace period and no fines would be imposed within that period. Sept 3 (AP) The first national survey on Sri Lanka's wild elephants shows that the Indian Ocean island has a population of more than 5,500. That is higher than previous official estimates.
