57,500 kg of refuse tea confiscated by STF

Aug 12 (DM) A large consignment of refuse tea had been seized by the STF from a lorry and two warehouses at Kelanimulla and Megoda Kolonnawa today. Five suspects had also been arrested in this regard, the Police said. The consignment of refuse tea totaled 57,500 kgs. Elephant population under threat – expert

Aug 12 (Island) Sri Lanka currently had a healthy elephant population, but it was under threat due to land fragmentation and the lack of elephant corridors, Wildlife Conservation Department (WCD) Director General H.D Ratnayake said. Aug 12 (Island) Meteorology Department predicted yesterday more showers in the drought affected areas of the country. Duty Meteorologist Jeevan Karunaratne, however, said those showers would not be sufficient.
