Aug 14 (Island) Eight police personnel including a woman constable attached to the Kokkadicholai police station were attacked by a group of villagers in Kanchankudi when they went there to arrest a woman who had been selling illicit liquor. The injured police officers are being treated at the Batticaloa hospital. A trishaw and a double cab belonging to the police were torched by the villagers who rushed to the scene when the suspect woman screamed for help while resisting arrest.

Aug 14 (Island) Hulftsdorp Magistrate yesterday remanded Dr. Nimal Gamage till August 18 over the death of Dr. P.A. Priyangi, mother of two.
