He said that while there would not be a split within the SLMC, the people were not necessarily happy with its current leadership. November exports fell 3.4% to $809.7mn |
Mar 10 (EN) Sri Lanka’s export earnings fell 3.4% to US$ 809.7 million in Nov 2016 from a year ago, dragged down by lower shipments of textiles and tea, reversing the year-on-year increasing trend in the previous three months. November trade deficit widened 47% to $922 million from $626 million in Nov 2015. November imports rose 18.2% to $1.73 billion with sharp increases seen in imports of coal, medicines, & textiles.

First local IPO for this year to be launched by RIL Property |

Foreign reserves up by US$ 165mn in Feb |
Mar 11 (LBO) Sri Lanka’s official reserves rose US$ 165 million to 5.62 billion dollars in February, up from US$ 5.45 billion at the end of January. Foreign currency reserves were US$ 4.66 billion and reserves in Gold were US$ 0.89 billion. Central Bank has purchased US$ 145.09 million of foreign exchange from commercial banks at market rates in February while selling US$ 297.25 million in the month. Mar 11 (DN) Kalutara North Police OIC Ananda De Silva was transferred to Colombo North Division on disciplinary grounds after the prison bus carrying underworld figures including Aruna Shantha alias Samayan came under attack in Kalutara on Feb 27.
