Arrangements made to bring back fishers from Seychelles: Devananda
May 7 (CT) Fisheries Minister Douglas Devananda announced that necessary diplomatic arrangements have been made, for the repatriation of Sri Lankan fishermen from Seychelles. These fishermen were rescued by the Seychelles Coast Guard after being hijacked by Somali pirates in the territorial waters of Seychelles. Devananda attributed this successful outcome to the timely intervention and mediation of President Ranil Wickremesinghe, expressing his sincere gratitude to him.

Sri Lanka’s Browns acquires Lipton tea estates in Kenya, Rwanda and Tanzania
May 7 (BDA) Sri Lanka’s Browns Investment Plc has taken over tea estates and factories owned by Lipton Teas and Infusions in Kenya, Rwanda, and Tanzania. Gross official reserves surpass US$ 5b mark

FSP complains to EC about huge increase in deposits to contest polls
May 8 (Island) FSP wrote to Election Commission (EC) protesting against the latter’s decision to increase deposits that candidates have to place when contesting elections.
