Sri Lanka inflation 2.5% in 20-months to May 2024, food deflates 5.7%
May 31 (EN) SL’s inflation over the 12-months to May 2024 was 0.9% with the central bank only generating 2.5% inflation since Sept 2022 when its deflationary policy started to show up in the balance of payments as a surplus. Prices measured by the widely-watched Colombo Consumer Price Index fell 0.6% in the month of May. Index fell from 195.2 points to 194.1. The food and non-alcoholic price index fell 1.2%

NATA directs hotels to ban Happy Hour
May 31 (DM) The National Authority on Tobacco and Alcohol (NATA) has directed all hotels to refrain from granting any discounts on the purchase of alcohol products, claiming that it is a punishable offence. In a letter to a leading star-class hotel in Colombo, NATA Chairman Dr. Alan Ludowyke said the NATA has received several complaints regarding hotels with liquor licenses offering discounts on the purchase of alcohol products, such as Happy Hour promotions.

2023 A/L results released
May 31 (AD) The results of the 2023 (2024) A/L exam have been released online, Department of Examination announced. Accordingly, the results can be viewed on the following website: www.doenets.lk. A total of 229,057 school applicants and 40,556 private applicants sat for the A/L exam.
