A Chinese apple in the Pettah market is between Rs. 20 and Rs. 25 while Australian or American apples are sold for Rs.40,50 and 60. The price of an orange is between Rs.35 and 40 while a kilo of grapes is between Rs.600 and 700. In supermarkets the prices are higher. Importers of fruits say the prices are higher as adequate stocks are not received from countries and a high tax is levied for imported fruits.

Four Tamil refugees rescued by Indian Navy |
