Sri Lanka test fire coal plant furnace |
Nov 17 (LBO) Sri Lanka has successfully test fired a furnace of a 300 Mega Watt Chinese-built coal plant using liquid fuel Wednesday, in the island's Western coastal area of Norochcholai. The first 300 MW stage is part of a 900MW coal fired complex. A ship carrying a 65,000 tonnes of coal from Indonesia has started discharging its cargo using barges, a reporter said. At full capacity the plant will burn 114 tonnes of coal an hour.

Anti Vice squad raid illegal liquor dens |
Nov 18 (DM) The Valana Anti Vice squad raided several hideouts in Vaikkala, Wennappuwa and Marawila that were used to produce illicit alcohol on a large scale. The officers were able to seize 70 barrels containing goda and kasippu, 40 bottles containing illicit alcohol. They also raided hideouts in Koswadiya, Rangamulla and Haththidiya. Burial site of 65 troops traced |
