May 8 (CT) The United National Party has decided to request the Criminal Investigation Department to probe into the incident where a man displayed an LTTE flag during the UNP May Day rally in Jaffna, UNP MP Harin Fernando told Ceylon Today. He also said the UNP has no connection with the incident and it is merely a conspiracy to tarnish the image of the party. Sri Lanka to export maize for the first time
May 8 (DN) Maize is to be exported for the first time in Sri Lanka. The government has taken measures to export maize within the next two weeks, said Agriculture Minister Mahinda Yapa Abeywardane. “Sri Lanka is already self-sufficient in maize. The surplus will be exported to Canada, Taiwan, etc. The annual local requirement of maize is 180,000 MTs. Presently, 200,000 MTs is produced in the country. Accidents galore over Vesak weekend
May 8 (Island) The total number of accident victims seeking treatment from the National Hospital (NHSL) and the Kalubowila Teaching Hospital (KTH) during the Vesak weekend was 228. The Accident Service of the Colombo National Hospital treated over 150 accident victims over the Vesak weekend. Norochcholai coal power plant yields more than expected
May 8 (DM) The Chinese-funded Norochcholai coal power plant has delivered more than the expected budgetary value during the past two months, and adhered to permissible environmental levels, Power and Energy Minister Champika Ranawaka said yesterday. Over 300 displaced as strong winds lash at homes
