Guard dismantles camera, steals cash from ATM
May 25 (KT) A guard allegedly stole cash from a local bank after dismantling the surveillance camera, a court heard on Tuesday. Chinese extortion ring busted in Colombo
May 25 (Island) The CID, after a joint investigation with a special police team from China, arrested 17 Chinese nationals on Wednesday for operating an extortion racket from Colombo using the internet, police said. 1381 treasure hunters arrested since 2008
May 25 (Island) National Heritage Minister Dr. Jagath Balasuriya told Parliament yesterday that 1381 treasure hunters have been arrested by the police since 2008 for offences related to destroying places of archaeological importance. The minister. replying to a series of questions, raised in a special statement made by JVP MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake the previous week, said that 1,351 sites of archaeological importance had been destroyed since 2005.

Decoy used to arrest rapists
May 25 (Island) The Galewela Police used a decoy to arrest five youths who allegedly raped a 15- year-old school girl. Galewela Police sources said yesterday that the girl, a resident of Galewela had left her home after an argument with her parents. Investigation into theft at Museum to CCD
May 25 (LT) IGP N.K. Ilangakone has taken steps to hand over the investigation in to the plunder of artifacts from the National Museum to Colombo Crimes Division (CCD). US State Dept. says unlawful killings a major HR problem in Sri Lanka

SF wants army camps removed
May 25 (CG) Former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka says military camps in the north must be removed.
